OSU vs. USC

Postby dcall » Sat Sep 05, 2009 3:10 pm

Well if any of us had any hope of the Buckeyes winning next week against USC we can wake up now and stop dreaming. That was pathetic and Tressel verified what I said last year about him being overrated as a coach. Up 29-14 mid way through the 4th quarter and 4th and 2 and you go for it? A field goal seals the deal. Any coach in the country knows the diference between being up 2 possesions as opposed to 3. Pete Carroll will eat Tressel's lunch next week. This is big time college football and a long way from Youngstown St. Hey, Jon Guden will be available next year.

Pryor looked better(i guess)he looked down field more instead of trying to run every damb play, the O line needs to get a grip.the Defence needs to stop pissing me off with these Pop Warner BS tackles ( you know-the tackles all our Pee Wee coaches taught us not to make)unreal lacking in fundamentals.and Russell #21 got his ass burnt big time on the 65 yrd TD pass play Navy put up.one thing i saw a few times during the game, and that was Duron Carter cathes a football just like his Old Man.lets hope he is just like his old man.
The Buckeyes might have a tough time next saturday "lets hope not"

They are sure to have a tough time..nobody ever expected USC to be easy. I agree Pryor looked better...and he would have looked better yet if his receivers would catch the ball when it hit them in the hands. Washington missed two that I remember thrown perfectly. The defense needs to tighten up..but at least they won't have to defend that stupid triple option this week. Better have some sure tackling though or McKnight my have a big day.
The O line does need some work (again)..we'll see this week I guess. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

After getting home this AM around 4:30..and sleeping on it a bit...here's what I think.

1. The Buckeyes have nothing to be ashamed about. If USC is as good as most say, we just beat the best team in the country for 59 minutes.
2. If you draw a line in the sand at where Pryor took over, our three losses have been a very close game at Penn State, a last minute loss to Texas who probably should have been playing for the championship, and a last minute loss to a team that might be headed to the championship game again this year.
3. Could I nitpick about a few stray passes? sure.. but seeing the action live, I can tell you that 95 percent of his passes were in the exact spot they should have been. not all passes can be completed.
4. Could I nitpick the play calling? yup....but I won't. They have made leaps and bounds over the past year on play calling. There were a few play I thought were mistakes at the time...but kicking the field goal on 4th and one was not one of them. That's the right call all day long.

The stadium was rocking and the team did what they could. In the end, I thought we might have a problem with McKnight.. and we did. I think the guys just ran out of gas..but they played a helluva game.

I heard grumblings from the crowd on the way out about Tressel being run out of town..I hardly think so.... think about what we had before ...want another John Cooper style coach?... I think not.

You want to root for a team that always calls the right play and can win every game??? Good luck.
You want to root for a team that always wins...well I guess you can tivo the season..see who wins it all and then rewind and root for them all year long...

I, myself, realize the Buckeyes are not world beaters right now.. but they are once again one of the top teams in the country..and will have a great season and play in a great bowl game in January as always. We are spoiled as Buckeye fans....and some like to act spoiled and always want more... I'll take what we've got in all ways right now.

You need more sleep. :o

Tressel banked on Pryor's passing ability at the end of the first half, and it resulted in USC getting the ball back with enough time on the clock to drive and score. Run the ball, punt and pin them down, and they don't score. Most youth league coaches would have thought that one through correctly.

Tressel was out-coached, and Pryor was shown up by a true freshmen who played more than a quarter with a hurt shoulder.

I'm a Buckeye fan, but I'm not impressed with what I've seen the last two games.

This is what happens when a coach is not even aggressive enough to challenge a play.

Hell i noticed that on the 3rd replay.Tressel needs to grow some nuts and start coaching the damb team the way he is able to.i'm starting to think he's not the coach everyone hyped him up to be.
